News release from Sovah Health
Sovah Health’s Danville Emergency Room (ER) has been approved for more than $12 million in renovations, all of which are intended to enhance access for patients and improve emergency care for residents across Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina. Construction is slated toward the end of this year.
“Our Emergency Room is our hospital’s front door, and the number of people who come through those doors is increasing exponentially each year,” said Alan Larson, Market President, Sovah Health and CEO, Sovah Health – Danville (SHD). “We are so excited to have this opportunity to rebuild our ER into a first-class facility that is better suited to meet the growing needs of our community and will help our incredible emergency medicine team provide an even higher level of care to those we serve.”
Renovations will include a complete overhaul of the current 14,000 square foot layout of the ER with a 7000 square foot expansion to improve patient and staff flow, expand triage and reduce wait times. Once completed, the new ER will have additional patient rooms, a centrally located clinical workstation, making it faster and easier for clinicians to move through the space and provide a clear view of all patient areas at all times. The project will also include a new patient monitoring system. The waiting area and ambulance bay will both be relocated to make it easier to transport patients in and out of the ER and improve access for patients and staff. Finally, the entire space will receive cosmetic upgrades.
“This is something we have needed for many years,” said Ashley Bradshaw, SHD Emergency Room Director. “We are so excited to get this project underway and know that our community will benefit immensely from this new space.”
The renovations will be completed in phases and will not cause any interruption in emergency care for the community. The project is being funded by Sovah Health’s owner LifePoint Health.
