Danville to resume utility disconnections Sept. 1

The City of Danville will resume utility service disconnections for delinquent residential accounts starting Sept. 1. Also, on Sept. 1, the City will resume charging a $50 delinquent account fee for all utility customer classes.

Notices are being mailed to customers with past due balances of more than 35 days. To avoid service interruption and related fees, customers must pay any portion of their balance that is more than 35 days past due before Sept. 1.

Federal funding has been made available to state and local governments to help communities with COVID-19 issues. A portion of this funding is available for utilities.

City residents with COVID-19-related income loss can contact the Danville Department of Social Services to apply for assistance with past due utility accounts. Residents can begin applying on July 12. Danville Utilities customers who reside in Pittsylvania, Halifax and Henry counties should contact their locality’s Department of Social Services to see if assistance is available there.

Customers are encouraged to apply as soon as possible while funding is available. Also, residential customers have the option of enrolling in an equal payment plan.
