The Danville Fire Department received a call for a possible house fire at 126 Ruskin Street this evening at 7:08pm. Engine 2, from the fire station on Piney Forest Road, arrived to find a two-story house with heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the house. The homeowner informed the engine company that everyone made it out of the house safely and were accounted for. Crews entered the home and extinguished the fire which was in the back laundry room. The family's cat and dog were found deceased inside by firefighters. The Fire Marshal's Office investigated and determined the fire started in the dryer vent. Five residents are being assisted by the local Red Cross. Personnel operated on scene for just under three hours.
Danville Fire Department would like to remind readers to test your smoke alarms monthly and to clean your dryer vents regularly.
