Police Department plans youth, teen center

The Police Department has unveiled plans for a new youth and teen community center located in the former Green Street police precinct.

The P.E.A.C.E. Youth and Teen Community Center will house a gaming room, mentoring and safe space for students to do homework, and an arcade room. The department's School Resource Officers and Youth Engagement Officer will also work out of the center.

Planning sessions will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. These meetings will be held at City Hall, 427 Patton Street in the second floor conference room. The public is invited to attend and provide their input on the center.

The grand opening is planned for Dec. 1.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Alonzo Jones and members of Danville City Council joined Chief Scott Booth and representatives from the Police Department, Fire Department and Adult and Juvenile Detention as they walked the Green Street community providing residents with information on the center.
