The Danville Fire Marshal’s Office today lifted the ban on open burning in the city. The ban had been in place since Nov. 30 because of dry weather conditions that were prevalent.
However, 2.8 inches of snow fell on Monday. Prior to that, the city had received several inches of rainfall.
The public should still exercise safe practices. Examples include never leaving a fire unattended; accounting for windy conditions that could spread the fire; and having an extinguishing agent, such as water or a rake, nearby.
Fire officials also reported that citizens may notice smoke at the construction site for the casino resort on West Main Street. A burn permit was issued to burn natural vegetation that had been properly dried and piled from the site.
