The Danville Fire Department responded to a possible structure fire at Purdum Woods Apartments on Richmond Blvd. shortly after 6:00 PM Saturday April 16th. Through the quick actions of the first arriving units the fire was extinguished with no structural damage to the apartment building. The Fire Department responded with 3 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, an Incident Safety Officer, Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal totaling 16 firefighters. The firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a first floor apartment. They entered the building and extinguished the fire quickly, the occupant's contents were burned and the apartment suffered smoke damage throughout. Fire crews searched and evacuated the entire building to ensure the safety of the residents. Other agencies involved with the incident were the Danville Police Department, the Danville Life Saving Crew, the Utility Department, and the Red Cross. Units were on scene just over an hour. The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.
