[ARCHIVED] 06-03-2022 "Bring Play Back" Renovation in Camp Grove Completed, Event Tomorrow

Bringing Play Back Flyer for Release

The Danville Police Department would like to invite community members to the basketball courts off of Davenport Street, behind the Camp Grove Recreation Center in the Camp Grove Community for a special community event, "Bringing Play Back" June 4, 2022 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM.  This event will include a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, prizes and food sponsored by Total Praise Apostolic Church.  The event will unveil the completely renovated courts and include a ceremonial passing of the courts back to the Camp grove Community.

The "Bringing Play Back" project and event were planned and completed by the latest group of Danville Police Department recruits as they completed the agencies Community Leadership and Immersion Program CLIP Training.

Community Leadership and Immersion Program (CLIP) Training

The Community Leadership and Immersion Program is four weeks of classroom, workshop, and real-world training that will enable our new officers to understand the history and inherent needs of the Danville community. This mandatory training will be required for all new officers. The curriculum is built by community members and will host several guest speakers within the community. This training will culminate in a week-long project that will enhance our community.

This training takes places after completion of the approximately 26 weeks of recruit training at the regional academy.  This is classroom and practical training that teaches them the law enforcement basics:  firearms proficiency, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, search and seizure, criminal law, basic investigations, etc.

The community member facilitating the program in consultation with Chief Booth developed a program that provided:

(1) a framework and information focusing on community engagement

(2) supervision and access to community stakeholders and community concerns

(3) an evaluation of the new officer before and after completion of the training

(4) the new officer with resources and information to be successful once they are assigned to a quarter in the city

The new officers put on a presentation to Chief Booth, the staff, and members of the department about their project, how it will benefit the community and how it will be sustained in the future.

After completion of the CLIP training the officers complete their approximate 10 weeks of field training.  This is on the job training with a senior officer or field training officer learning the hands-on portion of the job. He/she is assigned to a shift and evaluated in the performance of their duties.
