The Danville Fire Department responded to a report of a water rescue at 1131 N Riverwalk Trail. Engine 1, Ladder 1, Engine 5, Technical Rescue 1, swift-water 1 & 2, Engine 7, Hazmat 2, Battalion 1, and Chief 1 responded to the incident. The incident was dispatched at 3:54pm, Ladder 1 was the first Fire Department unit on scene. They reported the location the boy was seen last, which was behind Woodall Chevrolet. The Fire Department responded with two boats, swift-water 1 and 2 and put the first boat into the river within 10 minutes of dispatch. Danville Fire Department boat teams searched the area in the immediate vicinity of where the boy was seen last. The boy was pulled from the river by Fire Department members and brought to the shore where they began CPR. The Danville Life Saving Crew members were waiting on the shore to assist with patient care. The patient was transferred to the DLSC, they continued CPR and transported him to SOVAH emergency room, where he was pronounced deceased by the emergency room personnel.
The Danville Fire Department was assisted by the Danville Police Department, Caswell Fire Department, Halifax Fire Department, Danville Life Saving Crew, and the Department of inland game and fisheries. The Caswell and Halifax fire departments deployed units downstream and assisted with searching the river. The Police department assisted with sending out "spotters". The Danville Life Saving Crew responded with a drone, a dive team, "spotters", and medical personnel.
