At approximately 12:19 pm today Danville Police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Wilson Road for a report of dogs being shot and injured.
Upon arrival the caller reported that his Beagle was being attacked in his yard by five dogs, four of which were Australian Shepherds that belonged to a neighbor. He reported that he retrieved a handgun and fired once into the ground in an attempt to frighten the dogs away so that they would cease the attack. Two of the dogs broke away from his dog, but one of them ran towards the owner. The owner fired a shot at that dog and killed it. One dog continued to attack his Beagle. The owner approached and shot the remaining dog at close range injuring it.
A fifth dog is thought to be a neighborhood stray and remains at large. The Beagle and Australian Shepherd were both carried to the veterinarian for treatment of their injuries.
At the time of this release charges have been brought against the owner of the four Australian Shepherds involved in the attack. Christopher John Dunlap, age 59 of Danville was issued summonses for four (4) counts of allowing a dog to run at large.
