The Coalition for a Safe Danville will meet 4 p.m. Thursday in the Westwood Middle School cafeteria at 500 Apollo Ave.
At the meeting, the Police Department will report on the official 2011 crime statistics, reactivation of the Street Crimes Unit as part of the city’s Safe & Sound Neighborhoods Program, and plans to launch a firearms awareness program to reduce the proliferation of guns on the street.
The meeting is open to the public.
City Council two years ago established the Coalition for a Safe Danville as a special municipal commission to bring together community stakeholders, share information, develop strategies, engage and inform the public, and undertake coordinated crime prevention activities that would combat crime and earn public confidence that Danville is a safe community.
